This musical version of the tale of the boy who wouldn't grow up aired live on television on March 7, 1955. It was so popular that it was restaged the following year, and again four years later.

Horse Boobs

Pferdebusen (Horse Boobs) is the fifth part of a series based on Arthur Schnitzler’s Dream Story. In the text, Katrina Daschner is interested in the ambiguity of fiction and reality, and the tension of unrealized sexual desires. She deconstructs this framework in her development of queer relationship scenarios. In Pferdebusen the filmmaker masterfully succeeds in staging the ruptures and irritations that are so essential for showing and wanting, with subtle humour and grandiose human and non-human actors.

City

For nine years in the 1950s, Jan Troell worked as a teacher at the Sorgenfri primary school in Malmö (an experience he drew on for his study of a teacher's relationship with his class, Ole dole doff (Who Saw Him Die?) in 1968); he lived in a house once occupied by Ingmar Bergman. In Malmö, Troell made his first film, Stad (The City), about a day in the life of Malmö, showing the life of the people from dawn until dusk.

Die Grünstein-Variante

The plot revolves around three men waiting to be deported in a prison. To escape the monotony, they form chess pieces from their bread rations, with which they then play against each other. Grünstein, a Polish Jew, proves to be a real talent, because although he is a beginner, he manages to defeat even the experienced player Lodeck, a German sailor, with his "Grünstein Variant".

A famous singer and actor is at the peak of his career but fatigue, stress and harassment of the media makes feel unbalanced. His star began to fall rapidly and so goes into a clinic to cure his pain. Coming out, away from his audience, will spend some time at a house that is in the North, to the seashore. There he feels haunted by the story of characters who have lived in a nearby house, in one of which identifies his former secretary.

Through Main Street with an Orchestra

Vasily Muravin, 50, a teacher at the Moscow Institute of Management, is experiencing a crisis. At work, the place of the head of the department is replaced by the more pragmatic, but limited person Valentin Romanovsky. At home, his wife Lida, who earns at work more than her husband, habitually reproaches him for indecision. It’s hard for Muravin to come to terms with his established attitude to himself, but he is most worried when his wife shows disrespect for his main hobby - playing the guitar. Once, unable to bear the bullying, Muravin suddenly leaves the family (wife and daughter) and from work.

Apophenia

Relying on the work of Letonian scientist Constantine Raudive, Marko Mazibrada, a psychiatrist disappointed in his profession, performs experiments aimed to empirically determine whether there is life after death, by phenomenon of apophenia. Together with Simon Besedić, alcoholic and editor of Armageddon Monthly, the magazine that deals with the paranormal phenomena, Nikola Mrzopoljić, manual labourer and paterfamilias, and Eta, pharmacist and unusual prostitute which Besedić offers a relationship, he experiences a sequence of weird events...

Our Need for Consolation

Swedish writer Stig Dagerman (1923-1954) was a literary sensation who after a few productive years, suddenly fell silent. Struggling with writer's block, Dagerman wrote the essay "Our Need for Consolation" about his inner demons and his quest for freedom. For the first time in English, featuring Stellan Skarsgard as an on-camera narrator, this film brings Dagerman's powerful words to life in the form of a visual poem.
