La Traviata

Renée Fleming has matured into one of the finest sopranos around at the moment, a true star with a sparkling personality and a velvet-toned voice that is capable of wringing the finest emotions out of works by Strauss and Tchaikovsky that from a lesser singer could sound rather cold and clinical. I wouldn't have thought her voice would be so well suited to Violetta Valéry in La Traviata, and it does take some getting used to, but I think she at least brings a distinct quality to the role with an emotional heart that isn't always necessarily there when a leading diva uses it primarily as a display for her vocal talents. It's served well also by Antonio Pappano's conducting of the Royal Opera House Orchestra in a traditional, but effective production by Richard Eyre.

Clemence's Afternoon

Clémence and her parents take part in a big country picnic. Arriving late, Clémence joins the other children who are already playing away from the adults, but it doesn't turn out to be as much fun as she expected.

The Kiss

Aimee and Steph are up for an adventure; its a hot summer's night and they are fueled by cheap alcohol and teen hormones. The promise of cool water lures the two girls to an isolated fire-water tank. Once there, the intimate mood of the tank takes a dramatic turn, forcing Aimee to make a decision that she will question for the rest of her life.

Theft

Theft takes place in Washington, DC. Howard Knox is a well-intentioned Congressman crusading for reform. He is scheduled to make a speech in which he will expose the corrupt activities of an industrial magnate and his congressional stooges. The wealthy capitalist in question, Anthony Starkweather, along with his son-in-law and political puppet, Senator Thomas Chalmers, will do everything in their power to foil Knox's great speech and publicly disgrace him. To complicate matters, Margaret Chalmers, wife of Senator Chalmers and daughter of Starkweather, forms a friendship with Knox and begins to sympathize with his cause.

16-year-old Vivian moves to live with her grandmother Ma Granni in the city of Bamenda. On her arrival, she is infatuated by Ben, an okada boy. Ben so Lovely and willing to be financially supportive takes Vivian on a ride to a seemingly romantic but dangerous adventure.

Grido

The film is the autobiographical history of the theatre director Pippo Delbono, who recounts the most meaningful moments of his life, up to the present day, along with the characters he has met during his career. It is a poetic statement, a portrait of his own artistic journey from theatre to reality and back. The actors play themselves, a typical element of Delbono's work.

Virtual band Gorillaz get to prove how good they can be in reality when they step in to replace U2 to headline opening night of Glastonbury 2010. Riding high on the success of their third album Plastic Beach, the collaborative effort led by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett wowed the large crowd at this year's Coachella Music Festival in California, literally bringing the cartoon band to life.
